Our Sustainable Brands Featuring Crap
As you know, sustainability is one of our core values—probably our most important. At Meadow Collective, we take pride in curating brands and products that are good for the Earth. We try to find you the chicest, high-quality pieces that elevate your closet while still protecting the environment and garment workers. And, that’s why we started carrying Crap (yes, that’s the brand’s real name).
I personally love sunglasses. I love what they can do for an outfit, taking something basic and plain and upgrading it to the next level with just one simple accessory. I love how they can make the occasional hangover more bearable, and I love how they pull a look together, uniting different elements in a casual yet elegant way. So, when I found out about Crap sunglasses I knew I had to have them for the shop.
Made in L.A., Crap is an independent sunglass brand that represents the cool, effortless Californian lifestyle. Designed with surfers and skaters in mind, Crap makes a variety of sunglass styles that range from a vibrant, candy-colored 70s retro vibe to a grunge 90s skate aesthetic. But, it’s not just the styles that make Crap easy to love. No, the brand’s commitment to sustainability and decent price point make it an ultimate summer must-have.
The thing that makes Crap sunglasses special is that they’re made out of bio acetate which is a biodegradable and plant-based material. Bioacetate is environmentally-friendly because it’s a cellulosic material that takes no more than ten years to fully decompose. This is super important considering that sunglasses are just one of the few plastic items that end up in landfills and our oceans.
Crap also maintains its sustainability goal by never using single-use plastics to package their sunglasses and by recycling and reusing in their means of production when possible. Crap has plans in the next few years to innovate its lens, using more sustainable material and upcycled packaging.
But more than that, Crap is a Climate Neutral certified brand. This means that Crap has a net-zero carbon footprint from its “investment in projects outside of its value chain to compensate for all its measured carbon emissions” according to the Climate Neutral Organization. In essence, Crap cares about the Earth, uses sustainable means of production, and invests in organizations and projects that help improve our environment.
And as a further testament to Crap’s sustainability goal, Crap also donates 1% of its annual sales to environmental causes.
So, as you can see it’s about more than just funky, fun sunglasses. It’s about funky, fun sunglasses that help heal our Earth.
