Start Your New Year Off Right With The Best Vegan Burgers
The New Year is all about resolutions. Resolutions to be better. Resolutions to improve. Maybe this year you want to finally redo your bathroom, learn how to knit, or master a new rollerskating trick. Or maybe this is the year where you finally want to get healthy.
I remember the start of the pandemic way back in March 2020. I wasn’t taking care of myself. I wasn’t moving as I had all my life. And the pandemic forced me to realize that I had to make some lifestyle changes. I had to take better care of myself. I had to move again in ways I loved, and I had to watch what I was eating.
So, with that said and the start of a new year, I decided I wanted to share one of my favorite plant-based recipes: easy, delicious vegan burgers.
The thing I love most about these burgers is their simplicity. Sure, you could go to Whole Foods or any other grocery store and buy Impossible burgers that almost taste like the real thing, but then look at the list of ingredients: cultured dextrose, methylcellulose, and tons of other ingredients I won’t even attempt to pronounce. There are so many preservatives and artificial ingredients that it takes away the benefits of plant-based eating which in reality is a simple, whole-foods-based lifestyle.

Like I said before, one of my favorite things about these burgers is their simplicity. In total, they take about 15 minutes to prepare, and about 15-20 minutes to cook. In less than an hour, you could have dinner done for the night!
The first thing you’re going to do to make these burgers is to preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, mash your cooked lentils. Next, add all of your spices to the lentils. Mix until all spices are fully distributed. You can add any additional spices to “spice up” your burgers. Sometimes I like adding cayenne for a little kick.
After you’ve added your spices, mix 1 part oat flour with 4 parts lentils. And then mix in 1 part oats with 4 parts lentils. So, if you have two cups of cooked lentils, you’ll add ½ a cup of oat flour and ½ a cup of oats.
Next, chop up your onion into small cubes and add to the lentil/oat mix. Use your hands to thoroughly distribute the onions throughout the mix. At this point, you should notice that your lentil/oat mix is a little dry. Add vegetable stock until the lentil/oat mix is fully moldable.
Now, cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, and mold the lentil/oat mix into patties. Set your patties on the baking sheet and then put them in the oven for 15 minutes. You can cook a little longer if you want your patties a little harder, but I prefer for mine to be softer.
Serve on vegan bread with your favorite toppings and condiments, and there you have it! Vegan burgers that your family is sure to love.
