How to Support Slow Fashion: Meadow Collective’s Roots

Long before I opened up the doors of my little shop in Miami, I had a shop in Costa Rica. My shop now is very different from the one I had in Costa Rica. Both had the same values of sustainability, slow fashion, and of course, super cute boho looks. But with my first shop, I actually made most of the stuff I own.

You see once upon a time, I wanted to be a fashion designer, and for a while, it looked like that was my path. My bikinis were featured in Miami Swim Week, my dresses in boutiques around the world, and almost every person that came into my Costa Rica shop bought my bracelets. People liked my stuff, and I liked making it. But one day I had a change of heart. I wanted to feature more and more brands, and not just local ones either.

With my shop in Miami, I’ve been able to curate all of my favorite brands and fill a gap in the Miami fashion scene. Before Meadow Collective, I had a hard time finding the stuff I like to wear in Miami, and I figured that I couldn’t be the only one. Plus, I didn’t feel 100% comfortable wearing clothes that were made unsustainably by garment workers who were treated unfairly.

And even though I’m super grateful that I can share my favorite brands and feature local Miami artisans, sometimes I still miss making things.

That’s why I’ve decided to tap back into my creative energy and get back to making things. Obviously, my shop is my first priority, but I want to bring back some of my past designs and share them with you guys.

Low-waisted style boho tiered three in one skirt, looks so good on our beautiful Sam

This first piece is one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever made, the Meadow Boho Tiered Three in One Skirt Dress. Between its simplicity and its versatility, it’s the ultimate must-have for your closet. It can be worn in three ways. You can style it as a low-waisted skirt (after all low waistlines are back in style), a high-waisted skirt, or as a dress. I love pairing this Indah Biru Solid Ruched Top with the low-waisted style. It also works well with the high-waisted style, but I imagine the high-waisted style would be perfect to use as a beach coverup or with a vintage graphic tee for a little more coverage. And of course, the dress pairs stunningly with this Rolla’s vest. Plus, it’s made out of bamboo fabric—a natural fiber, and upcycled cotton lace

In the Groove tunic: perfect for fall!

The In the Groove Tunic is absolutely perfect for fall, and moreover, it’s perfect for fall in Miami. What could be better than rustic tones in a light, breezy dress that you can actually survive the 90°F days in? I paired this dress with one of our Lovely Bird hats to give it even more of a fall feel. And while our lovely Sam is rocking some kicks in this piece, you could also pair it with some boots to dress it up a little more. Another thing I love about this piece is that it’s made with upcycled fabric true to Meadow Collective values

Pairs amazingly with a cute hat!

Silk Intention Wraps

What will your intention be?

These Meadow Collective intention silk wraps date back to my first shop in Costa Rica. I’ve always loved the idea of intention wraps. When you first put the wrap on you, you tie it on your wrist or anklet with an intention. Maybe you want to be more mindful of your diet and exercise, or maybe you want to remind yourself not to stress over the small things. Whatever your goal is, the wrap serves as a reminder to keep this intention at the forefront of your mind, and hopefully, when the wrap finally falls off, you’ve achieved your intention. All of my wraps are made of sustainable silk and are dyed with eco-friendly dyes. They’re perfect gifts for your loved ones or even yourself.

I absolutely love this Meadow Mushroom Charm chain necklace. It really gets back to my core of incorporating nature into fashion in both practice and principle. The charm is made of bronze and hangs on a 14k gold-filled chain. It’s a nice, simple necklace that you can use to dress up any outfit from a graphic tee to a Spell dress. It’s just enough to add an extra flair to an outfit without being too much. When making this necklace, I remembered how much I love making jewelry and creating in general.

sustainable jewelry

Pairs great with anything

Even though I love my little shop, I do love to get back to my roots and remember why I got into fashion in the first place. I wanted to make sustainable clothes and jewelry that supported fashion, and while I don’t do too much creating anymore, my goal is still the same. I want to advocate for slow fashion and introduce more people to sustainable brands that last.
