The Best DIY Last-Minute Halloween Costumes and Decorations

DIY

Is it just me or has October flown by? I can’t believe Halloween is right around the corner

Between the shop, family, and everything else, I feel like I haven’t had much time to enjoy Halloween. So in a last-minute effort to share some Halloween fun and DIY last-minute Halloween costume ideas, me and the girls made some fun, easy Halloween decor and costumes with some stuff from the shop!

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year, but I hate the waste that comes with buying cheap costumes and decorations that are ultimately going to end up in the landfill, so I always try to make my own Halloween costumes and decorations when I can. This year, we came up with a few special looks that are sure to be a hit at your Halloween party.

Last minute Halloween costumes

This first look is inspired by the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It’s pretty simple and low-effort, so it’s a great last-minute Halloween costume that’s fairly easy to put together. The most important about this costume is Frida’s infamous eyebrows. I just took my everyday eyebrow pencil and filled in my eyebrows all the way until they met in middle. For the rest of the look, I put my hair in a low bun and wore a flower crown over it. The flower crown is pretty easy to make. I just took this Flora Aura leather headband from the shop and put some fresh flowers in it. It’s the perfect headband to use if you want to make a flower crown!

One of my favorite things about this costume idea is that it’s so easy to make your own. You can incorporate some of your own style into this look. I imagine that Frida was a free spirit who cared about the environment, so of course, she would wear a sustainably made dress. For this Frida look, I think the Spell Madame Peacock Boho Dress in Boysenberry is the perfect dress. It’s eco-friendly. It’s boho, and it gives a free-spirited vibe that’s on brand with Frida Kahlo. This dress is also a great transition piece for between seasons. Depending on your accessories, it can work with any season. To complete this Frida Kahlo-inspired costume, I added some jewelry to dress up the costume and make it even better. Of course, I had to wear my Roller Skating necklace to personalize the look a little, but I also added some fun earrings. Check out some of the earrings from the site to give this look an extra flair!

This next look is of course inspired by Ghost Busters. The main component of this look is the Kivari Brae boiler suit. It gives Ghost Buster vibes, but it’s so cute to wear throughout the fall and winter seasons. It’s easy to dress up or down, and the belt that comes with it really gives you a cinched waist look. To give the jumpsuit a little more Ghost Busters flair, we added some fun patches from the shop. Like how cute is this Lucky Sardine Mushroom Rainbow Embroidered Patch? You can also check out some of our other patches to personalize the costume to your style a little more. The backpack we added is the Moroccan backpack. And while it’s perfect for this costume, it’s even better to use as a beach bag or running errands around town!

By the way, I love using the shop steamer as the “proton pack.” It definitely adds a nice addition for photo ops if you have a steamer at home.

This next costume is definitely my favorite. I love the idea of being a mushroom for Halloween. It’s so simple yet so fun and creative. To put this look together, first, you’re going to need a mushroom hat. I made mine with some fabric and stuffing. For more information on how to make your mushroom “cap”—pun intended—check out this blog post! Next, I paired my look with this Jen’s Pirate Booty Reflection Lapis Maxi Dress. It’s so ethereal that I figured it would be the perfect dress for a mushroom or fairy! For accessories, I paired this vintage bag with the look and added in some mushroom jewelry like the Heather Kahn vision quest necklace and the Heather Kahn vision quest hoop earrings.

Now that you’ve got your costume out of the way. There’s still a little time to make some DIY Halloween decorations. We made a little ghostly snowman out of recycled things! We used a tomato tower, Christmas lights, a sheet, a disco ball planter, a recycled box for the eyes, and a collar and hat from the shop for some accessories. First, you’re going to string the Christmas lights around the tomato tower, and then put a sheet over it. Next, take the disco ball planter and place it on top of the tomato tower. Cut some circles from your recycled cardboard box and tape them on the disco ball planter. Finally, accessorize with whatever you have around the house!
