Spell’s 100% Sustainable Collection: Meadowland

You guys know how much I love Spell—if my dog’s name is not an indication of it, then I don’t know what is,—and you know how I love Spell for a couple of reasons. More than anything, I love Spell for its commitment to sustainability. Of course, the flowy, boho dresses, the gorgeous kimonos, and whimsical prints don’t hurt, but I love that Spell takes responsibility and minimizes its impact as much as it can. In fact, Spell actually just launched its first 100% sustainable collection.

The Meadowland collection is Spell’s first 100% sustainable collection. And even though Spell has always made its collections with sustainability in mind, this collection marks a massive milestone for Spell. To be even a little sustainable in clothing production requires a decent amount of effort, but to be completely sustainable requires an enormous commitment.

Spell Meadowland Collection

In love with Spell’s Meadowland collection, fully sustainable

This collection features recycled fibers, organic fibers, and preferred fibers. It only uses certified partners in all textile production and is 100% artisan-made.

To boil this down into understandable terms, Spell used no synthetic fibers in this collection. Every garment was made with circular, regenerative, and renewable fibers which means no harsh microplastics on your skin!

In creating this collection, Spell also only used certified partners. Meaning that Spell only partnered with farms and production facilities that offer their workers fair wages, breaks, and safe working conditions. All partners must follow Spell’s strict constitution of workers’ rights and not employ any person under the age of 16. Spell also invests in artisan-made products that provide marginalized and underprivileged artisan communities with the tools and opportunities to share their traditional craft through Fair Trade practices.

Meadow Collective loves Spell

Imagine if every piece of clothing you owned was good for the planet and was made by garment workers who were treated like basic human beings instead of machines. I think our world would be that much closer to healing.

But at least for the time being, Spell is doing what it can to support marginalized communities and heal the earth while creating timeless pieces that can be passed down.

Think about it. For 2021 alone, Spell was able to create 6,345 days of work with its artisan projects. It was able to divert 4,940 meters of deadstock fabric from the landfill. One hundred percent of its domestic and international operations were offset—everything Spell did in 2021 was completely carbon neutral. Imagine if other companies operated that way.

Nothing better than a Spell dress

However, while we wait and demand the rest of the clothing industry to catch up to Spell, at least we can enjoy the fruits of Spell’s labors. Because even though I love Spell for its sustainability, I also love it for its whimsical, relaxed bohemian style that always makes me feel like a goddess when I wear it.

Next time you’re in the shop or browsing online, check out the Meadowland collection. Because not only is it 100% sustainable, but it has the perfect pieces to carry you into the summer and fulfill all you Mamma Mia, running through a field of flowers, cinematic summer daydreams.
