Top 5 Best Vegan Restaurants in Miami
If you’re vegan like me, sometimes it feels impossible to eat out and find restaurants that are 100% vegan-friendly. But luckily, Miami has so many delicious, yummy vegan restaurants that cater to both raw and cooked vegan diets. There are so many it was hard to narrow it down to only five, but we did it. Check out the top 5 best vegan restaurants in Miami.
As soon as you walk into Aguacate Sanctuary of Love, you’re overwhelmed with good vibes. Chickens are roaming around freely. People are laughing and eating yummy vegan food on brightly painted wooden tables. Exotic plants pepper the outdoor cafe, creating a jungle oasis. But that’s not it. Aguacate Sanctuary of Love is not only an outdoor vegan cafe, it’s also a farmers market, yoga studio, and animal sanctuary. It’s the ultimate place to spend a chill, laidback afternoon with friends.
Buy yourself a plant, pet the resident animals, or take one of the yoga classes, but make sure you order the Aguacate Burger. It’s my favorite thing on the menu. And it features Aguacate’s signature patty made of sprouted lentils and mung beans, and it’s topped with fresh greens, tomato, onion, and avocado smash served on a warm vegan pretzel bun.
Beehive Cafe is a lovely little hidden gem, tucked away on Bird Road. If you didn’t know it was there, you’d drive right past it, not knowing all the deliciousness you were missing. Beehive Cafe has been serving vegan food since before vegan food was in—more than 30 years. It has a quaint, hole-in-the-wall vibe where you’re sure to run into Beehive regulars. It’s the type of place where once you go, you become family. The owner, Carlos knows everyone’s name and makes new specialty dishes every day.
It’s not often you find places where you can meet the mastermind behind the food, but that’s what makes Beehive different. You can see everything made in front of you. It’s good, solid, affordable vegan food without all of the mystique and pretentiousness. Drop by on Tuesdays after 12:30 p.m. and order the tres amigos, an amazing lasagna-like dish made of mashed red beans, sweet potatoes, and plantains, served with homemade salsa and blue corn tortilla chips.
If you’re looking for a cute vegan date-night restaurant, then look no further. Planta is an upscale vegan restaurant, serving artfully plated, gastronomic vegan food. Order their crispy rice to get the vegan version of the trendy, instagrammable crispy rice tuna. It’s still crispy rice but topped with avocado and spicy ahi watermelon instead of tuna. Planta’s coconut ceviche and cauliflower tots are also worth a try. Make sure to try one of their specialty drinks too. They’re made with superfruit juices, so at least you can say that your tequila is slightly healthier.
Planta currently has two restaurants in Miami. The other, newer restaurant, Planta Queen is located in Coconut Grove. It serves the same class of vegan food that Planta does, but its menu focuses on Asian-inspired dishes. And while I haven’t been to Planta Queen yet, I can say that if it’s anything like the Planta I know, it’s sure to be amazing.
Even though Thatch is located in Midtown, it’s definitely worth the drive. As soon you walk through its glass doors, you’re transported to one of the most instagrammable restaurants in Miami. The soft pink walls, cushy booths, and ginormous glass windows make Thatch the perfect place to take a picture with a colorful Buddha Bowl that has the whole vegetable rainbow.
Thatch serves a variety of vegan dishes ranging from the silkiest hummus you’ve ever had to creamy, savory Tom Kha coconut soup to a crispy mushroom sandwich that could make even the biggest fried chicken fans consider going vegan. It’s a great place to plan brunch with the gals, drinking CBD matcha and gin cocktails while snacking on crispy cauliflower and carrot lox toast.
LoveLife Cafe is a Miami staple. It’s the place where you take all your non-vegan friends to convince them that vegan food is more than just sad lettuce and nutritional yeast. Order the LoveLife Arepa, an arepa made out of chlorophyll, spinach, and chia-infused masa and stuffed with the best black bean sofrito you’ll ever have; avocado; and LoveLife’s signature garlic aioli sauce. Or try the pizza verde, a cashew cream sauce-based pizza with spinach, basil-pesto, “parm” crumble. You could share it, but it’s so good you’d probably rather eat it by yourself.
LoveLife Cafe gives hope to vegans everywhere that a vegan diet is not exclusively salads. It’s a place where you can go have a pizza and beer without sacrificing your lifestyle.
